Back in 2014, app stores all over the world were hit with the beautifully confusing and mind-boggling Monument Valley. The creation from Ustwo Games gave us a brand new kind of game, a kind of game that really made you think outside the box and outside the realm of what you thought was possible.
Now, three years later, as part of a surprise reveal at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference of 2018, Ustwo has once again graced our lives with a brand new instalment of the Monument Valley story.
Now let’s talk about the game. Everyone who played the previous instalment will remember the sense of mystery as the story slowly unravelled and will be glad to know that that same sense has returned in this new game. Featuring new characters Ro and her daughter, the game centres around Ro as she introduces her child to the valley and its elaborate architecture. As with the previous game, the aim is to make your way across these optical mazes whilst making changes to the layout of the structures to safely make it through. As you traverse through these geometric puzzles, you slowly unravel a story in which this mother and child duo are entwined.

Monument Valley Cheat
Featuring the same art style and musical joy that the first game provided, this game is a genuine pleasure to play, it doesn’t feel like it is just a game, it feels like an experience. As a huge fan of the first game, I was excited to get to try a brand new game in the story and was not disappointed. When playing this game I felt no pressure to rush this game as I might with a lot of games on the market these days, instead I was invited to truly enjoy the experience of exploring each way I could twist the landscape while I figured out which way was up, which way was down, which way was sideways and how I could use the dimensions to make it to the next door.
One of the great things about Monument Valley Two is its differences from the previous game, because it isn’t a direct continuation of the previous game story, this is a game that anyone can pick up and enjoy without knowing the story of the original Monument Valley. Another huge difference is the fact that you now have two characters to control and ensure that they make it through the geometrical maze. Controlling two characters can make working the puzzle out a little tricky at times, but it definitely adds a great new challenge to the game.
One of my absolute favourite things about this game is that, like its predecessor, the main characters never communicate verbally, instead conveying thoughts and feelings merely through a series of actions and expressions, which I find speak a lot louder than actual words in this game. Another brilliant thing about this game is the fact that it actually has more content than the previous game which had ten chapters compared the Monument Valley Two’s fourteen chapters, meaning that there are more amazing landscapes to explore and more story to unearth.
My feelings about the game
I was a huge fan of the original game and I was so excited when I heard about Monument Valley Two, so of course it was a must buy as soon as it dropped on the Apple App Store. I’ve already spent a couple hours on this game and I’m not even half way through all of the content, which is really good considering how fast I burned through the original game. The music is relaxing and highly reminiscent of the first game, the puzzles are complex and make you think without being too much of a struggle, but sometimes it’s fun to just play around with the landscape before actually finishing the level. It is immersive and really pulls you into the story, forcing you to keep playing until you’ve unearthed al of its secrets. This game was an absolute credit to its predecessor and it has been a pleasure to play.

The game released worldwide on the App Store on June 5th 2017, a release date for the Android play store is as of yet to be confirmed (With the first game, it was released to the android market a month after its initial release), the game is currently rumoured to be released in the next month, however this may change as many developers are favouring longer exclusivity periods on the App Store, so this is not guaranteed.
